“IF RECREATIONAL DIVING ISN’T ENOUGH, CHALLENGE YOURSELF AND GO DEEPER AT BLUE MARLIN DIVE TECH”

Welcome to Blue Marlin Dive Tech:

Blue Marlin Dive Tech is Located East of Bali and off the North West corner of Lombok. The main headquarters for the operations is based on Gili Trawangan. Other shops are based on Gili Meno and Senggigi, with our latest dive shop opened in Komodo.

This first Technical IDC in December 2013 saw Blue Marlin Dive continue as the leading technical dive school in Indonesia, as pioneered since 1992 by Blue Marlin founder and owner, and accomplished TDI Instructor Trainer, Simon Liddiard. Five candidates participated in total, four of whom are already employed in the diving industry here with Simon’s diving companies. Since then we have had regular TDI Instructor courses with a 100% success rate and all candidates moving on to full time employment.

2016 has been another award winning year for Blue Marlin’s technical team. We certified just over 200 technical divers at all levels including everything from Nitrox to Advanced Mixed Gas CCR. We are also very pleased to announce the discovery of 3 new technical dive sites. Will’s Wall, Amy’s Reef and The Pyramids are becoming very popular due to Thresher and Silvertip shark sightings as well as Eagle, Mobular and Manta Rays! It is clear to see that these sites have never been dived before due to the vast amounts of fish and pristine coral. We would like to congratulate and welcome Alex Cerra on joining Will and Theresia to the team after a very successful instructor internship. And lastly but most importantly, the price of Helium is now 25% less!!

Blue Marlin Dive Tech is affiliated with Technical Diving International (TDI), International Association of Rebreather Divers (IART) and PADI TecRec. We offer the full range of Nitrox, Mixed Gas and Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) courses as well as Technical Instructor courses to all levels to increase your knowledge and further your career.

Our senior technical diving instructor, Will Goodman, is a TDI Advanced Trimix and Advanced Mixed Gas CCR Instructor Trainer (TDI#11341), IART JJ Level 2 Instructor (IART# IDO0102) and PADI Tec Trimix, Staff Instructor (PADI#622626). He is proud to be one of only 2 IART (International Association of Rebreather Trainers) JJ-CCR Instructors in Indonesia. Will and the Blue Marlin TECH team set  CCR depth record to 290 metres in March 2014.

Will Goodman CCR World Record

team_image_ccr_world_record_1

On March 26th, 2014, following a year’s training and preparation, Will Goodman, a technical diving Instructor Trainer, and Guinness World Record holder for the longest scuba dive, descended to a recorded depth of 290m using an unmodified, JJ-CCR (closed-circuit rebreather).

At this depth, 3 out of 4 computers stopped registering further, but it is has been confirmed the actual depth was 294m.

Will surfaced after 9 hours and 57 minutes, asymptomatic of signs of decompression illness or dehydration, and was in high spirits.

When asked of the experience at depth, he replied, ‘It was the toughest and most challenging environment I have ever been in. I reached the bottom after a 9 minute free fall in absolute darkness.

team_image_ccr_world_record_2

All computers and depth gauges stuck at 290m, in 10 degree water and strong current. I had high narcosis due to the nitrogen levels in my breathing mix, and HPNS (whole body tremors) from the amount of helium in the mix, contributed to by the rapid descent rate.

My hands started shaking and, on ascent, I wondered if I’d make it back, as I began to lose my motor function. I can’t thank the team enough for this amazing opportunity and all their hard work.’

Although not recognized as an official Guinness World Record, due to there being no category for this event, Will has been inundated with well wishes and congratulations from professionals in the diving community worldwide, confirming and accepting his claim that he has bettered the previous record of 283m set by Krzysztof Starnwski

The attempt was conducted through Blue Marlin Dive Gili Trawangan, Indonesia, which provided full logistical and team member support. In-water team members from around the world (pictured, left to right) included: Jeff Anastas, Theresia Gollner, Frank Cella, Jan Schmid, Will Goodman, Jeffrey Glenn and Simon Liddiard.

About Us

The leading technical dive school in Indonesia

About Blue Marlin Dive TECH: We are a division of Blue Marlin Dive, which is dedicated to providing quality technical diver training, daily technical dive charters, and technical expeditions to all corners of Indonesia.

Our aim is not only to provide a conducive environment for training, but a facility where qualified technical divers can actually use their skills to dive the many wrecks and deep walls that the Gili islands and Indonesia have to offer. We feel a gap exists in the dive industry because many places offer technical diver training to divers, but few offer daily guided technical dives and technical live aboard expeditions.

We fill this gap in the industry.

Although we recommend all technical fun divers use their own equipment, we realise there are times that it may be impractical to bring everything with you. We have a wide variety of necessary tech equipment available (primarily Apeks and OMS) and we also have a huge variety of tanks available. These include: 22lt isolation manifold twins, 26 ltr isolation manifolded twins, single 11lt, 9lt, 5ltr,4lt and 3lt decompression tanks. All our boats are equipped with water, emergency oxygen, mobile hand phones and an extra supply of deco gas. We also have JJ CCR closed circuit rebreathers for courses, rental and retail as well as a generous supply of Softnolime grade 797 for our rebreather clients.

Dive Guidelines

Outside of training activities, diving will be supervised in water (or from surface where deemed appropriate) by qualified Blue Marlin staff. Diving will take place at sites appropriate for the experience levels and certifications of the individuals involved. All decompression diving activities will be backed up by dedicated boat cover equipped with surface oxygen, additional decompression gases as required, and with mobile phones.

We require that all divers plan their dives to comply with the following guidelines:
  • For any dive deeper than 40 metres, or any dive where decompression gases are used, a dive plan must be completed and approved by relevant Blue Marlin staff.
  • All gas mixes MUST be analysed, correctly labeled for MOD and signed and dated by the user. Fill station log must be signed.
  • Maximum bottom PO2 will be 1.5 ATA or lower.
  • Maximum decompression PO2 will be 1.6 ATA or less.
  • All divers must carry sufficient gas to complete their dives within rule of thirds, or as appropriate for the dive plan.
  • On Trimix dives, maximum END will be 40m/130ft.
  • Divers must be equipped with at least one reel and SMB/ lift bag, with two being strongly encouraged. A whistle and flashlight are highly recommended on all dives.
  • All technical divers must provide proof of insurance upon arrival at Blue Marlin Dive.
Divers must carry back up depth and time information.

Blue Marlin staff will reserve final judgment on suitability and choice of the dive site and help you to plan your dives with the latest diving software.

TECH Instructors

Location

Our primary technical diving location is on Gili Trawangan. Gili T is an idyllic island with no motorised vehicles, just off the north-west corner of Lombok, Indonesia. It is the first island east of the “Wallace Line.” This area has the greatest marine biodiversity on the planet and is therefore one of the best places in the world for scuba diving. Water temperatures are between 26 and 30 degrees celsius all year round. Visibility here rarely drops below 10 metres and has an average of 25 metres.

Our location means that we are blessed with an abundance of marine life that includes everything from macro critters to big pelagic fish. We have access to exclusive dive sites for technical divers that are protected from currents and are all within a 25 minute boat ride from our beach front shop. We can organise CCR only liveaboard trips to the Komodo National Park aboard the Blue Marlin Liveaboard, Ikan Biru. Once on board, you will be guided by a technical rebreather instructor with over a thousand logged dives in Komodo.

Because of our location in Indonesia we are extremely convenient to get to. We are serviced by reliable fast boat operators that will pick you up from your hotel in Bali and bring you straight to the harbour on Gili T. Total travel time by boat is approximately two and a half hours. Lombok’s International Airport is a 25 minute flight from Bali. We are happy to organise your domestic airline connecting flight and airport pick up for you. There are several airlines operating flights from Singapore and Malaysia to Lombok and Bali.

Blue Marlin Dive has brand new accommodation so that you can stay at the resort and have all your needs met in one location. To view the hotel or to make a booking please click on the following link: www.bluemarlindive.com/accommodation
